Is it just to stop the fluttering?  My understanding is that the viscosity
does
play a part in the degree of damping which controls the amount of
enrighment.
I must say that I never noticed any problem with the 10w40 I always used to
use!
Maybe 20W50 or 40 is even closer to the intended viscosity than 10w-40.

When I lift with my finger, even the 10w40 seems to cuase a lot of
resistance in the dashpot.
