I've run across this problem in LBCs ranging from MGs to TRs to Jaguar
and here are what they all boiled down to (so far):
1. A bent or warped clutch disc that allows you to shift while moving but
not sitting still.
2. A bent input shaft (had this on a Jag and an MGB) that catches both
the clutch disc and the pilot bush and keeps the gbx spinning.
3. A misaligned gbx- this caused the input shaft to contact the pilot
bush until the bush wore down too far.
All of these problems can cause other problems to occur if not solved
soon. Good luck!
