Hi Gary,

I went through this a while ago and ended up buying the Hobart MIG welder.
It operates off both gas and gasless setups with standard household voltage
(110).

My research showed that the most common "leading" brands are Miller and
Lincoln. Talking with folks indicated that the Miller was also pretty good,
and I was able to get it quite inexpensively on the Internet. I think I
paid around $350 or a little more.

Useing flux cored wire I have welded down to 22 guage steel with a little
practise. I'm not sure who makes the feed mechanism but the cable which
magaes the gas, wire, and trigger is made by Miller!

The other factor that is quite important is the duty cycle. Mine is typical
for these units (i.e. it can't operate for very long at full power) but this
has NOT been a problem because when welding the sheet metal you use very low
power, and weld for short time periods.

If you need more info let me know and I will send you some.

regards,
