However, unless you used an original bolt for the pressure
tester, maybe you are not seating the
pressure relief ball perfectly, resulting in pressure loss.....
Schlorff drilled out an original bolt with a small
hole which would not disturb the seat and then welded on adapters
to the gauge.

All I did was drop the ball onto the seat... no plunger and no
spring.  The thread converter  "goes-inta" on the end of the
gauge hose is just screwed into the hole until the o-ring engaged
and did not push on the ball. Just the weight of the ball was
sealing the valve. So the bleed down would occur faster. I would
have to come up with a spring to put on top of the ball to
simulate the real valve closing spring pressure.

I have and extra rounded off operating valve cap that I could
drill and braze... but I really don't have any brazing experience
at all.
