Really doesn't matter, since the gear-drive starter is also a pre-engaged type,
meaning it puts the pinion in mesh with the flywheel before starting the motor.
The original starters turned the motor first, so the pinion had to catch the
flywheel on the fly and the bevels on the gear teeth were important.

The gear-drive starters are also great if you want to use a later flywheel with
an early transmission (aluminum flywheels only come in later style) or if you
want to put headers on a pre-50K TR2/3 (most headers won't fit with the early
starter).
