Well....my Pirana was in pretty bad shape. The cover did come off, in fact, too easily. It looked like the PO used some sort of adhesive to get the pieces to stay together. What's left on the car is

On my 77B, the top part just pulls off. I had to use a channel lock (with no teeth) to grab it and work it off. There are no threads or anything. It just pulls off. The switch is attached to the top
