Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could help me, or point me to a web site that explains the pro/cons of removing all Emission Control off a 1975 TR6. All the stuff on my car is leaking, and im cons

Hi Graham. I have a 1972 and started to do this because I thought it was affecting idle stability. I decided not to because I didn't want to spray oil mist from the crankcase all over. Here are the c

Interesting. The only time I actually had my hands on an air pump, I was severely dressed down. My boss c. 1980, Leonard, asked me to remove the alternator. Well, it did look sort of like an alternat

Sorry to jump in on this thread late but the conversation got me thinking. My recently acquired 72 TR6 has the emission system partially removed. Canister is still present with a line running to the

Hi Mickey. I don't think the temperature switch could cause your problem. I believe the function of the switch is to disable the vacuum retard when the engine is hot. This has the effect of advancing

If anything, advancing the spark (from the retarded value) will make the engine run cooler, as it will be more efficient. But the major effect is, as you say, to increase idle speed and thus move mo

I had to re-read Tim's note. I think you are correct. It does pump air into the exhaust helping to combust unburnt hydrocarbons. Now, here's a new question. Does this increase exhaust backpressure? I

I don't know if they ever did it to TR6's, but certain Spitfire 1500 models had air rails attached to holes in the head that did pump air into the intake side of the head, instead of the exhaust. So

You are absolutely correct. Having removed the hideous mess from 3 75 Tr6s I've noticed no reduction in gas mileage, but by the same token, no seat-of-the-pants noticeable difference in performance.
