I would leave it until or unless you have a specific reason to convert, such as installing a radio or an aftermarket ignition module. There is a school of thought that there are two general reasons

If you are going to isolate a radio, just cut the outer antennae ground sheathing on the cable before it reaches the radio. Worked for me and my 8 track back in 72. (8 track am,fm, stereo that is) --
