Thanks Patrick. I had to use a two prong hub or gear puller. Not sure what it is, but I bought it for six bucks at a local parts place and it worked great. The pinion shaft had the requisite indentat

Jeff that is the old pinion seal. They were made of metal with felt? packed into them. New ones are quite different. You will destroy it getting it out, don't fear. I recommend probably 4 to 6 1/4 sh

Hi Jeff A three legged puller should do this without damage as it should be around a hand press fit! If it starts to need a lot of force to remove, you could try a tap (do not hit it hard) on the end
