Hi John, To check the solenoid, remove the armature (plunger) then very briefly apply power through an ammeter. By doing this the points in the solenoid will remain closed and full current will flow.

I suspect the DPO [ damn previous owner ] wired the override relay direct to the hot side of the fuse box. I saw this done on a car I worked on to fix the overdrive. Check it out. Bill Bolton
