1. The TRF sells tie rod ends with grease able fittings. Your call, if mine
were dry and non grease able they would go.
2. Again your call. If I had any question about these parts they would be
overhauled. All you need to do is read some of the archives on the hubs coming
apart to make your decision. It is cheap insurance now.
3. You can replace them your self. it is a job to get the end hubs off to get
at the seals. The one for the pinion is a different ball game, in the fact that
the pinion nut must be set to a specific tolerance.
It may be weeping from lack of use. The seals will dry if not lubricate from
the oil inside.
4. Yes, they are stock from the factory. You can get replacement at just about
any parts store or place that handles pipe supplies. They are normally used to
protect the threads from damage on the pipe and tubing. They come for either
inside or outside protection of the threads.

1) Should the tie rod ends be replaced as a matter of course? They seem to be
in good shape, but dry. Are there any replacments that can be greased?
2) Should I plan on having the rear hubs overhauled? There wasn't any noise
from them before the rebuild started and there wasn't any free-play.
But...one makes a slight scraping noise about every sixth revolution when
turning by hand.
3) Should the gasket and oil seals on the differential be replaced? There's
no oil dripping out, just seepage on the case itself. If they should be
replaced, is this a DIY job?
4) Just out of curiousity, there is a stud hole drilled all the way through
the rear of the lower A-arm. From the bottom, a stud is inserted that bolts
onto the spring pan. On top of the hole, red plastic plugs are inserted. Is
this original? I can't find the plugs in any parts book.
