I should have elaborated more on the situation. Had just rebuilt the clutch
m/cyl , had taken the TR on a trip and was ~100 miles from home. The m/cyl
piston started sticking (not returning) and the clutch would not disengage.

Driving with no clutch is not a problem except for the obligatory stops and
restarts like traffic lights. Attempting to restart with the starter or trying
to bang it into gear from a rest was not an option. These both appeared to
have great potential for expensive damage to the trans. or starter.

The seals needed lubrication, as Girling rubber grease is no longer supplied
with the kits. There may be some other lubricant available, I didnt check
and, at that time, it didnt make a whole lot of difference. I theorized that
silicone, in whatever form, would be a better lubricant than brake fluid. I
pipetted fluid from the reservoir and added DOT5. I needed to get the piston
working to get it home. Compatibility wasnt an issue, as long as it didnt
blow up, create toxic vapors or turn to jello. It worked, got it home, flushed
the system and have had no problems since.

This procedure may not have been correct, but sometimes, you gotta do what ya
gotta do to accomplish the mission while keeping collateral damage to a
minimum.
