I'm hesitant to intrude into what is apparently a personal vendetta of
Jay's, but...
Why is the current SP format such a sacred cow? It may have made sense when
the rules were originally developed, but it has not kept pace with the
"market". There has been an explosion in aftermarket parts and parts
makers that allow more modification options to cars, while maintaining their
"streetability".
Hypothetically, if I wanted to compete in SP rather than Stock, it could
likely be because, in addition to driving, I like modifying my car. I find
the current SP rules constraining relative to what's out there on the market
to play with. And I don't believe it's possible to have a competitive
Prepared or Mod car that's streetable.
Adding more classes isn't the answer. There are enough already.
I vote for letting the SP classes evolve to something closer to the SM
allowances (although I'd shy away from some of the more extreme drivetrain
allowances).
Kudos to Dennis for his efforts along these lines.

I.e., Dennis' goal all along has been to make SP into his image of the
"right" allowances. Creating a "new" class was a second choice, and he's
still trying to achieve choice #1.

to add a class or two. But if there's any way to serve the same people
with the same level of parity with less classes,"
IOW, serve the folks who agree with Dennis at the expense of those who do
not.
