Here's another quick hash at it, but I can't claim to be as thorough
as Rich in coming up with interesting ways to look at the data.
I decided that participants were rookies if they were in a class
that started with the six letters "rookie". And again, I listed
the number of runs rather than participants, since we transition from
three to four runs halfway through the season.

79 DNFs (36 rookie) / 846 runs (255 rookie) [Oakland (CA) Coliseum]
62 DNFs (12 rookie) / 717 runs (156 rookie) [Oakland (CA) Coliseum]
27 DNFs (14 rookie) / 519 runs (177 rookie) [Oakland (CA) Coliseum]
31 DNFs (17 rookie) / 712 runs (244 rookie) [Oakland (CA) Coliseum]
54 DNFs (13 rookie) / 716 runs (216 rookie) [3Com Park, San Francisco, CA]
31 DNFs (12 rookie) / 690 runs (201 rookie) [Coliseum, Oakland, CA]
28 DNFs (11 rookie) / 796 runs (232 rookie) [Coliseum, Oakland, CA]
16 DNFs (3 rookie) / 608 runs (100 rookie) [County Fairgrounds, Stockton, CA]
24 DNFs (7 rookie) / 472 runs (92 rookie) [McClellan Air Force Base]
18 DNFs (0 rookie) / 603 runs (48 rookie) [Castle Regional Park, Atwater, CA]
22 DNFs (1 rookie) / 588 runs (45 rookie) [Travis Air Field, Atwater, CA]
24 DNFs (7 rookie) / 868 runs (268 rookie) [Coliseum, Oakland, CA]
17 DNFs (9 rookie) / 876 runs (284 rookie) [Coliseum, Oakland, CA]
9 DNFs (2 rookie) / 540 runs (144 rookie) [County Fairgronds, Stockton, CA]
21 DNFs (1 rookie) / 560 runs (116 rookie) [County Fairgrounds, Stockton, CA]
10 DNFs (2 rookie) / 576 runs (156 rookie) [County Fairgrounds, Stockton, CA]
12 DNFs (3 rookie) / 620 runs (124 rookie) [Mather Air Park]
6 DNFs (1 rookie) / 520 runs (76 rookie) [Mather Air Park]

I didn't really have any axe to grind with these numbers, I just thought
that they were interesting. I had them as a side effect of another
project, so I figured I'd post 'em.

The other project came from joking around with Jerry Mouton and Keith
Hearn about ways to visualize autox results data. Check out:

        http://www.patheticgeek.net/autox/round12.gif

This is a plot of the raw times from round 12 of last year, sorted so
that the drivers with the fastest runs come first. DNF's are plotted
as zeros. Again, I won't make great claims about the accuracy, as
I did a pretty half-assed job of parsing the data out of the web pages.

The graph didn't seem particularly surprising, but it did show that
even the fast drivers seem to have a fair number of blown runs.
