This message is addressed to those who may be buying spark plugs in
the future. I posted a query to the jag-lovers discussion group to
ask opinions on the various preferences for spark plugs. This group
contains a great many authorities, including professional mechanics,
race car mechanics and drivers, and even a couple Ph.D.'s in
auto-related fields. Even so, the expected result was that most spark
plugs are the same (hey -- they either ignite the fuel or they don't)
and that everyone would have their own personal preferences for one
reason or another. The most expected would be perhaps an agreement on
a make or two to avoid.

However, the result was FAR more concise than expected. In fact, the
results were clear to the point of overwhelming, with virtually ALL
recommending STRONGLY the SAME brand of plug: NGK.

There were several reasons given:

One mechanic from a shop that tracks its complaint and return rates by
computer found a 7% failure rate in Champions (not 7% of cars, but 7%
of PLUGS, meaning nearly 100% of cars), and had essentially a zero
failure rate after switching to NGK. The numbers may be unbelievable,
but the conclusion is clear.

Perhaps one of the most interesting notes was that Chevrolet specifies
NGK plugs in the Corvette ZR-1 -- and GM MAKES spark plugs!

There was a long list of other testamonials. Almost all were about
the greatness of NGK. There were a few remarks about other plugs, but
the concensus was clear. From now on, if I am buying plugs, it will
be NGK's, and there are a LOT of people that suggest you all do the
same.
