To remove an almost full tank I did as Fred said but I bolted a piece of
plywood to my floor jack's head. It was about 1.5 x 2.5 feet and it worked
out great. I had no fear of the gas tank tumbling down on my head as it sat
nice and flat on the wood.
I would also prelube the engine before starting.
