Leon, I have registered over 15 cars which were reclaimed, salvage or of
pre-windshield plate varisty and never had a problem. Once the car is
properly labeled by the VIN plates per year of manufacture I have had a new
or renewed title issued for each one by the DMV, However, I do all the
paperwork thru the Auto Club (AAA) and then have the vehicle inspection done
by the local CHP station (Culver City).

When I put my son's MKIV together from parts we only had to spend about 30
minutes at the inspection station at the CHP and the paper work at the AAA
office was about 30 minutes. And since thae car had been off the DMV records
for more than 7 years totals fees were about $45 as I recall.

If a car has a non-operation certificate on it it can cost several hundreds
to cover past registration years as bring a title current. That's why I
always start with a plate (VIN) and create a new title. Much cheaper and
clean.

If you are bringing a 1963 car to CA that did not have a VIN plate outward
visible in 1963 it should not be any problem as long as it does HAVE a vin
plate properly affixed (welded, bonded or riveted .... don't use
screws....the only thing the CHP ever made me correct).

Of course I missed the part saying which state you were moving to and some
states do have some peculiarities unique to each.

So move to California, let your Triumphs live longer and have no registration
problems.

Cheers!!
