My 2 cents:

I have driven most of the roads discussed on the list so far.... I regret
that I have seen only the ones in Central Illinois in my Healey

Grew up .. and still live in illinois. Grew up near Galena. It's a
beautiful area - especially for Illinois. Route 52/6761, in iowa from
Debuque to St Louis is gorgeous. Live now in Champaign/Urbana (Go Illini
!!!!). I actually love driving my Healey on the long counrty roads. On
even a small rise, you can sometimes see for literally tens of miles. Those
drives are usually solitary and quiet.

We lived in New Hampshire for a year. have driven to the top of Mount
Washington, have watched the leaves turn on the Kancamagus highway, but I
found more lovely was the drive up Shepard Hill (named after the Astranaught
Family), and around Squam Lake, outside of Holderness New Hampshire, to be
the the most spectacular. it is the drive at the beginning of the movie 'On
Golden Pond' (and yes, we lived 'on Golden Pond').

Have taken the 'loneliest road in the world', and route 1 all the way down
the California Coast. If anyone makes it to east central California, I
loved the drive outside of Sacramento on route 88 to Tahoe.

Anyone want to meet up and Take the Illinois Drive? I can provide lodging
and good food at the beginning of the route (mom's house pretty near
Galena). Well, I need to wait for good weather - no top on mine
yet..........)

cheers
