You can't really get vapor lock in the engine compartment of a Healey
because vapor lock only occurs when fuel vaporizes in the line before
the fuel pump.  That's why old American cars will get vapor lock
because the fuel pump is mounted to the engine so the fuel in the fuel
lines in the engine compartment vaporize before getting to the pump
and then the pump is just sucking air.  With a Healey, the fuel pump
is in the back so vapor lock is rarely a problem.

Sounds like to me you have a bad coil or condensor that isn't working
very well when it gets hot.  Maybe also a stuck float or dirty fuel
lines.
