John,

Thanks for the web site. A picture is worth a lot of questions answered.
When I was looking at the hand locking plate going back on to the vent
window assembly, just did want to try it on good metal. But your idea about
going to a local airport is even better. Redlands and San Bernardino are
close, and they are A and P rated so that when I become airborne I will not
be in violation of any FAA regulations. I think that the continual 100
degree temps, humidity, and smog out here have fried my brain.

Hi Gary,

I've been able to set some of my rivets using hand squeezers,
punches and some handmade tools. It really helps to have
the right tools and some experience. Unless someone else has a
recommendation near you,
you could give Hanson Rivet a call. http://www.hansonrivet.com/index.php4
They may be able to help you since they appear to have a riveting
and assembly department or lead you to a fabricator that can help you
with your small job. Aircraft builders use lots of rivets so
checking with shops that work on small aircraft may work out (I would guess
you have some small regional airports out near you).

Cheers,
John

Now my next problem is RIVETS. The side windows are starting to freak me
out
because I have never worked with rivets. I can get them out, but getting
them back in, fitting right and not destroying the new chrome finish may be
a problem. Norm Nock has a little info (and tool description) in his Tech
Talk on fitting rivets, but I need to be taken by the hand.

Is this job left better to an expert? Is there an expert?
