Friends,
I recently ordered a carpet set for my BJ8 with John Skinner Ltd in the
UK. Carpet, underfelt, fixing material, the lot. Discovered that the
carpet covering the rear part of the transmission tunnel (from the
heelboard to the gear lever opening) was way too long: Using the hand
brake opening in the carpet as a guide the carpet was some 8 inches too
long. Made a picture, sent it to both John Skinner and Rich and asked
for a new piece with proper dimensions. Rich advised me that there
should be no binding on the rear end of the carpet (there was), and also
advised me there should be no underfelt on the heelboard (which was
supplied).
John Skinner sent me the following reply which confirms that the British
have a sense of humor unrivaled outside the UK.

I'm sorry to hear about the carpet problem. We have looked at your
photos provided and see where the problem is occurring. However, we
cannot understand why this problem has occurred as the tools/patterns we
use for cutting this carpet set has been effective for 20 years without
any issues with parts not fitting.
We are, of course, happy to help. However, there is no point in us
manufacturing a new piece as it will use the same tool/pattern as the
one used for the carpet piece you currently have! We suggest that you
cut the back of this carpet down to the correct size and have that piece
of carpet rebound with binding - we can supply the correct Binding to
you free of charge.
Let me know.

I have replied that his reaction will be my contribution to Friday Funnies.
