I think I missed the post with what the initial purchase price of this MGB is.
I always look at
what it would cost to buy an already done car vs. doing one myself. The perfect
buying scenerio is
when you find one of those cars that has been pampered and then grown out of by
the owner. I
believe the original post had the mechanic quoting $3,000 for ALL the work,
engine rebuild and
clutch, not just the clutch. I had an engine done a few years ago for right
around that number BUT
got the WORKS, new: .040 over pistons, Isky cam and new cam bearings, double
row time chain,
valves and seats, oil pump, water pump, lifters as well as new rod and main
bearings,rings and
clutch. I work as a tow truck driver out of a full service repair station and
can tell you that
there is a huge difference in how engines are "rebuilt". Find a shop that
knows MGs and does them
right. In my opinion the body is more important than the mechanicals in an
initial purchase. Gotta
tow now, Safety Fast, David Deutsch
