Of course not. But you're forgetting one of the foremost rules of
etiquette on a party line type mailing list. After every statement or
comment in every message you are to assume the existence of an implied
"smiley", unless otherwise specified. This is not to give any credit or
benefit of the doubt to the sender, but should serve to temper the response
if someone should happen to infer any personal offense.

I always figured that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If
you can quible in jest I feel just as free to reply in jest. Aren't the
British supposed to be known for their droll sense of humor? [There goes
another can of worms, but we're all supposed to be partly British on this
list, aren't we?] At least the subject matter is actually list related.

just hear someone of the 'old school' saying the same thing about those
new-fangled post-war TCs compared to their purebred prewar overhead cam
models?

I suppose to some people cars may have stopped being real sporting machines
with the introduction of the steering wheel. For me that self-induced
imaginary dividing line is where the factory attached the windows to the
doors in such a manner as to make them very difficult to remove during a
sporting drive. I never could figure out why one would want to tote all
that excess weight around when it came time for a little spirited driving.
