For me, an owner of a 76B, I obtained a '73 engine and am planning to
rebuild and make it a 1950 cc engine for the few horsepower increase. I
already replaced the S-Z with a pair of HIF's and that helps a bit. $3K
is not idle money for me. $1,000-1,500 is something I could swing. Moreover, I
don't think about resale, really, not ever...I think about enjoying being
in the car and driving it as a "cruiser".
Yes, a 50% increase in power would be great, but would that be 50% increase
in my enjoyment. I don't know how to measure that, but living in
an urban area (Philadelphia - NY - Washington corridor), Kelvin, I'm not
sure, actually, I doubt, that $3k is worth
it, especially since the car was not much more than that when I bought
it 4 years ago.
I don't race so that probably plays a factor. If I did, I
might have 2nd thoughts.
