Maybe, but isn't this pretty much true in every
enthusiast genre? Go where the muscle car guys hang
out, and you'll see plenty of roachy Cutlasses with
nothing more than homemade open exhausts and a set of
Cragars. Go to any Porsche club gathering, and there
are any number of '77 911S's with huge turbo tails
hung out back. And how many lame, cheapo BMW's are
there running around with "M Power" crap all over
them? (Does the guy in the 524td really think he's
fooling anyone?) How many Jeeps are there with goofy
lift kits that don't increase ground clearance one
iota? And how many guys that roll down Ocean Drive on
brand new chromed-out Harley Davidson Fat Boys,
dressed like vagrants in a couple grand worth of
leather fringe and skull patches, are poseur
accountants from the Hamptons who take the Lincoln
Navigator if it looks like it might rain?!
Poseurs are everywhere. But the "ricers" take more
heat, and I honestly believe it's because they're
young and loud and admittedly kinda obnoxious
sometimes. But they're just having fun, doing what
they want to do, and rebelling against their elders
like every other generation has done. In fact, I'm
quite sure that the very fact that they're villified
by "normal" society gives them a certain sense of
accomplishment and pride...
