The biggest reason the engines are built like that is that most of the
manufacturers are playing a numbers game trying to get as much horsepower
out of their engine as possible to increase sales. My Miata was upped to 140
HP this year. That's about 25 more than the original 1.6L engine. It make
it's power at 6500 RPM and redline is 7000.
