Further to the UJ saga....

Spent 3 hours last night stripping a UJ flange off a S/H driveshaft obtained
from TRGB, fitting a new UJ, replacing the snapped handbrake lever on the hub,
replacing the handbrake cable, all going as well as I could hope for,
everything going back together fine, when....

I tried to bolt the UJ flange back onto the differential. Bolt wouldn't go in.
Hmm, wierd. I spend some time fiddling before my tired and frustrated mind
realised THE HOLES DID NOT LINE UP! I guess the driveshaft I picked up must
have been from an earlier Spit, and it used a different pitch circle diameter
for the bolt holes on the flange. It never occurred to me that all Spits
 would not be the same.

So, two more salutory messages:
First, most directly - ALL UJ FLANGES ARE NOT THE SAME, for no obvious reason
at all Triumph changed them at some point.
Second, more generally - ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PART, AND THAT IT
WILL FIT, BEFORE YOU WASTE 3 HOURS TRYING TO FIT IT!

This morning I came to work via TRGB (my wife kindly gave me a lift, then
dropped me at the train station, making her well late for work, she's lovely),
picked up yet another spare driveshaft, made sure it was the right one by
comparing to the broken flange I had bought with me, and today I will try for
the THIRD time to sort it all out!
