Post is the best way to get small quantities of bits in here in
Kan-a-da-eh. Customs charges a $5.00 brokerage fee plus GST. Shipping is
not that bad and usually quite fast.
The better way for the big bits is still the container route. A 20
footer is about $2,000CDN and the 40 footer anywhere from $3,000 to
$4,000CDN. Our 40 footer this time is around $1500US if I'm not
mistaken. then you add on the brokerage fees which are pretty minimal.
You need a good broker that knows what the heck they are doing. Ours is
well trained. Then we get whacked the GST, but hey, so is everything you
buy in this country. Takes about a week for the ship to float across.
Great way to get complete cars over. We sometimes even build a plywood
platform in the container and load in tons more parts. Makes it that
much cheaper for everyone.
Nothing more fun than seeing a semi trailer pull up out front and unhook
the container and give you 3 hours to empty it. Yahoo, it's Christmas in
November! Amazing how much stuff you can cram on a VISA card!
