Just got back from talking with the police and viewing both cars.
Even though the officer agreed that the damages match, and even
though a colleague of mine also saw the Mustang parked next to my car
yesterday, since there are no witnesses to the actual hit, the police
probably won't pursue the Mustang owner. Of course, the officer
chastised me for not calling this in immediately. I didn't burden her
with the news that I'd just pulled a double all-nighter to get two
grants and two papers out the door and just was not up to dealing
with more "issues". The officer also chastised me for having repaired
the light cluster so quickly. I guess it's more important to be able
to have a clear report than it is to have working brake lights and
turn indicators. And of course, it's always important to blame the
victim, too.
I took plenty of photos, tag number, and parking deck hang tag number
before the officer arrived. Not that any of that will help on an
official level. And, I guess I just need to take a deep breath and
ask myself what's it worth to me to deal with this person on any
level.
