I thing the problem is more likely to be in the ignition than the carb or
fuel supply. Typicaly a restricted fuel filter will allow the engine to idle
ok & run ok under light load , then lose power when you put your foot into
it & need more fuel. A miss on 1 or 2 cylinders probably is not from the
carb.
Suspect #1 would be the points. The gap may have been hanging on by the
skin of it's teeth, then a hot soak at the gas station may have been too
much, especially if you have a plastic rubbing block on the point set in
your car. These have been known to melt at high temperatures and give you a
sudden running problem, or no running at all.
Even if you go with new points & condenser, the suggestion to fling this
set into the weeds is a good one. Well, except you have to file an
environmental impact statement first.
