FYI, the static radius of 195/70-13's (compared to that of 5.90-13's) is
really close to making up the difference from 2.88 to 3.07 gearing.
205-60-13's are only about 1% larger diameter than OEM 5.90-13, so you'd
make up quite a bit of difference on either of those two tire sizes.

If you start with a 14" wheel then there is a lot more flexibility on
tire size to get larger radius, without getting into really tall
sidewalls.

Dave,
Bill makes a point about the change. If you use a calculator you can
find a tire size (larger) that will equal equivalent the difference
between the
3.07 and the 2.88 gears. Perhaps you can borrow a set of large sized
tires for the rear and "try out" the change (Mustangs, T-Birds etc.).
Then if you like the change the tires are a lot cheaper that the gears.
With their own wheels (on new larger tires) you can change "ratios" back
and forth in about ten minutes.
