My $.02

Several years ago I looked over as many 289 and 302 blocks as 
I could lay my hands on.

The conclusion was, NO significant difference in functional bore length.

And looking at stroker kits, piston skirts are usually shorter than OEM
pistons.

Leading me to conclude 289 and 302 blocks are interchangeable 

and stroker kits would be happy in either block.

As far as over bore, Ford recommends +.030 max. for 289 / 302 blocks.

Real world has up to +.060 on some blocks with NO obvious problems.

One example I can think of, Tom Duncan's drag Tiger is running a .060
over

5 bolt block and he still lifts the front wheels nicely!

If it breaks today, he's used it for the last 10 + years!
