Subject: TR3 Headlight Question

Hi Guys

I was out the other night in the TR3 and fellow RTR member Bob Hardy
noticed that the low beams were out in the left headlight. When I got
home I replaced the bulb with one that worked in the other car and when
I tested it the low beams were still out in the new(er) bulb. Remember
it is only the LEFT headlight only. The right bulb is fine. What could
be the cause of this?
        (a) both bulbs have the same filament burnt out.
        (b) the plug is dirty
        (c) wrong type of bulb
        (d) the wiring has a problem
        (e) the dimmer switch has a problem.
        (f) some other problem
        (g) some other really stupid problem
        (h) operator error

Ken,

I assume this is a tripod headlamp.
1) check the bulb filiments by using a test meter to check for
continuity. Normally you should be able to visually see a break in the
filament but to be absolutely sure test it with a meter
2)check for corrosion on the copper leads at the tripod conncetion
probably you will need to clean it off with some steel wool.
3)if it still does not work, with the headlamp switch turned on, attach
a 12 V test light to the tripod light connection for the main headlight
beam which should be a blue and white wire (unless someone has changed
it) If you do not get any power then work backwards.
4) attach your testlight to the blue and white connector located on the
inside left fender under the radiator stay support rod.
5) check the connection at your dipper switch in the footwell again the
blue with white wires....one of the leads may have loosened or fallen
off

One of the above will surely be your problem.
