Dave,

I am having the approximatly same problem with my SUs, Used a colortune
kit and got the mixture right after rebuilding carbs. Runs fine in
garage, Won't pull past 2500 rpm, starts to crap out like its starving
for fuel and misfiring. Okay you fuel system gurus, I also installed
new K&N filter charger air cleaners. Do I need to go to a smaller jet
to compensate for the increase in air flow? Dizzy is advancing OK. Can
not find any vacuum leaks in lines or carbs(sprayed carb cleaner on out
side at throttle shafts while running, makes no difference on rpms). I
am using 20w50 oil in my dash pots. I rechecked all my wires and point
gap. Recked timing about a zillion times, I thinks it's right. Screwed
in advance plate screw all the way, set timing at TDC, and backed
advance plate out 13 clicks. Got new plugs, wires, rotor, points, new
wire to points from coil, new ballast resistor at coil new high out put
coil, and set valve lash at .010". What else could it be? Help this is
getting damn frustrating.
