John; Rule #1 It's your car, do what you want with it! Big block Chevy
power? GO fot it Dude! Full hydraulic suspension for that low rider
look? Si, Senor! Most everything Truimph built was made in large
quantities, so it's not like you're personalizing a Bugatti Royale!
My wife had a '66 Corvette @ 10 years ago. A nice driver, and we drove
the hides off the thing. I got sick of going to car shows and watching
cars geing rolled out of enclosed trialers. Then the guys would argue
the over correct placment of the chalk marks on the frames! Absolutely
anal retentive behaviour! The cars weren't that clean and correct when
they rolled off the line! And these things couldn't be driven, only
rolled around at shows. Mean while, I was doing hole shots at
stoplights, going to the beach and (GASP!) getting sand in and on the
"Vette! WE had a blast with the car! Which is pretty much how I treat my
TR6, except it can't smoke the tires like the 'Vette could. Maybe the V8
transplant is due.....
What I'm saying is, you decide what the car is going to be. If your idea
of automotive fun is spending Sundays in a field, arguing with a judge
that the color of the anodizing on your radiator clamps is correct, then
go the total OEM resto route. Personnaly, my choice is nice and clean,
with whatever personal stuff suits me. Then, drive it every chance you
get in the summer!
