John,
They are the same physically outside from 71 on.  The 70's diff's while
outwardly similar have smaller drive and output flanges (as well as being
weaker).  They will all bolt in to the frame.  The GT6 didn't have lower
ratios, in fact without overdrive most had the highest raito in a small
Triumph 3.27:1.  Most GT6's came with 3.89:1 and those were the only two
ratios I know of offered for the GT6.  3.89:1 was a common ratio for
Spitfires.  Contrary to popular belief GT6 diff's are no stronger than the
Spitfire diff of the same year.  They are in fact the same except for the
noted ratios.
