Zempel,

I regularly add 4oz of Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) per
tank of gas. This was recommended by Rick Walker, a talented
carb wizard here in San Diego. MMO does not boost the
octane rating, rather Ricks claims that it "moistens" the gas.
This is his way of saying that modern unleaded gas (and reformulated
gas if you live in California) drys out seals and creates gummier
deposits. The rotting effect of reformulated gas on older seals
is very well documented. MMO may reverse this effect.

I have been doing this for over 12 months now, in all my cars.
I cannot objectively say that it has made a difference, but I have noticed
very subtle improvements in the running of my cars. For what it is
worth, my engine had 80K miles, and has never been apart, yet seeing the
other side of 5500 rpm is a regular feature for folk who know how I drive :)

        YMMV.
