j-type overdrive problem

does your overdrive actually work inn both first and second? If so is it
any good? If it works okay when in first and second then why not leave
it available in all forward gears and just set up a relay to cut the
connection to the od when the reversing lights come on? Having an od in
first must make the traffic a little less of a bind eh?
