Sounds like we were premature in assuming the battery was defective. 
Sounds like a connection to either the batery or the other ends of the
battery cables.  Do you have a volt meter?  Or a test light?  If so check
for voltage between the bettery terminal and the destination of that cable.
 In other words check for voltage between the battery post that is
connected to earth and actual earth.  If you get voltage there you either
have a bad connection or a bad cable.

Also check the hot terminal to the starter solenoid connection.  If both of
these check out good check the brown wire connection at the solenoid.  A
little corrosion can go a long way (to make your life difficult).
