This would be my choice for 'most likely'.  If for instance the clutch pedal
pivot is getting a bit stiff, due to lack of lubrication and/or rust, it can
keep pressure on the M/C, keeping the relief valve in the end from opening.
The clutch might work fine, until the extra heat from sitting in traffic
warms the slave enough to make the fluid expand.  Then the closed valve
allows pressure to build, which starts to release the clutch.
