Now that we have defined the thingy, where does one get one (that
doesn't leak), and, furthermore, where does one mount the thingy once
acquired?  My dictionary was out to loan to Alan Greenspan.

Well, yeah, tap is one of those words that has a lot of meanings.  But
the
number one definition in the Webster's New World College Dictionary (for
the noun form of Tap) is: a device for starting and stopping the flow of
liquid in a pipe or barrel, etc.; faucet.

A device for cutting threads is way down at #6.

Using the word "tap" is a bit ambiguous as a result of the multiple
meanings.  The term "fuel shut off valve" leaves little to be
misconstrued.
