Let me answer this one!

The reason why there are no California VTR conventions is because of
Triumphest. The event is rotated among the Cal clubs and DCTRA and
takes so much planning and effort that they are reluctant to take on
hosting a VTR as well. While I like Triumphest and will continue to go
to the ones that have autocross events (Sorry, San Diego), I would much
prefer to also have a VTR convention close by every now and again.

Since I first purchased my first Spit, there have only been 2
conventions on the west coast and neither have been in CA.

I have advocated that the VTR board REQUIRE local chapters to hold a
convention on a revolving basis either on their own or jointly with
another chapter. There are enough chapters across the US that it would
not put a large burden on any particular one if they only had to host
one every 10 years or so.

If as you say, Randall, it has nothing to do with Triumphest, then why
don't the CA chapters belly up to the bar and host an event. I am sure
the VTR board would be overwhelmed to back that.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Joe

> VTR 2004 in Richmond

But, that points out the other huge problem with a single, national club
...
it's over 2600 miles from my home to Richmond ! Joe C lives a little
closer, but still I'll bet the thought of spending a full week on the
road
to get there and back was a major factor in his not attending.

I live in the second largest metropolis in the United States, yet there
has
never been a VTR convention less than 1000 miles away. What's wrong
with
this picture ?

And don't talk to me about Triumphest ... it's an effect of NEVER having
had
a VTR convention within reasonable driving distance, not a cause.

By all reports there was a sharp decline in east coast attendance at
Breckenridge, CO, even though it's only slightly west of center. Can
you
imagine how many would come to San Francisco, for example ?

Then there's the TRA "national" meet, bragging about how they're west of
the
Mississippi for the first time ... but still in the eastern half even of
the
lower 48.
