I have no idea how German cars earned the reputation of being reliable.  The 
Audi I owned needed a minor repair about every two months and a major twice a 
year.  I sold it after the second time it left me stranded.  A friend of mine 
bought a new BMW 850.  He was on a first name basis with the service writer at 
the dealer.  He was actually relieved when it was totaled.  And parts cost 
the moon (those guys are really proud of their work).

By comparison, American cars are far better.
