Yes, I have a suggestion as to what it might be. I've had something similar
happen to me. Remove the thin metal flywheel cover and see if the noise goes
away. Mine is a TR4A with a well run in engine. I suspect there is a little
too much wear on the crank trust washers. In my case that little extra wear
was enough to allow the flywheel to shift and make the ring gear bolt heads
rub the cover when the clutch is depressed. Makes an awful noise. That cover
can be installed such that the pressings will rub against those flywheel
bolts. Look for a telltale shiny mark on the cover when you remove it.
This may be your source of the noise.
Hope it is and things get solved. In my car I placed some thin washers
between the cover and the gearbox allowing the cover to move away from the
case by the thickness of the washers. Much easier than replacing the thrust
washers. That'll happen when the engine gets rebuilt next.
