Sounds good on the surface - EXCEPT!
CSRG has events with 200-240 entries. Of these, easily 150-190 are
"production" ( and I use that word loosely, very loosely ) cars. If I set
grids strictly by lap times, I would a single group of about 100 cars - not
a very popular, or safe solution.

I try to set grids based on a number of things:
Age - of the cars, so that the grids loosely resemble the old days.
Speeds - It's not smart to have to large a difference within each group.
Driver ability - Can the guy maintain the above speeds consistently, or did
he just get lucky on one lap?
Attitude - Even some of the slower guys are out there for BLOOD, and some
even resent being in the "slow group".

I've only being doing this for 20 years, but I think I'm getting good at it.

Regards,
DanR.
