A mechanic friend of mine gave me this bag of little "o"-ring washers made
of silicon, or something like that, for that exact purpose. They are
slightly yellow and translucent. They seal up the surface between the
plate and the bolt head so that no oil can come out from there. However, I
do think the big culprit is the flexing of the plate. What someone needs
to make is a thick hard piece of metal that will fit in the side plate and
act as one big washer to spread the load of each bolt and keep the plate
from warping.
