got a private copy instead!)

I have never seen (in the UK) any variant of this engine
except the 3.5 with that bore. The others (3.9, 4.2, 4.0, 4.6)
all have a 94mm bore with different strokes. This is _definitely_
true of the production 4.2. I have close connections with the
company who originally developed the 3.9 and 4.2 and whose designs
Land Rover adopted (with minor alterations, but not to bore and
stroke), and have seen many of these dismantled and rebuilt.
Various subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences occur in pistons
and rods, but as far as I'm aware (and I can probably check if
anyone is sufficiently interested) rods for 3.5, 3.9 and 4.2 are
essentially the same. The 4.6 has larger main and big-end journals,
and the 4.0 is a destroked version of this with the same bore and
stroke as the 3.9 (3947cc) but internals related to the 4.6. The
3.9 uses the same crank as the 3.5, all the other capacities are
achieved through stroking. Another variant (which I have - not a
factory option) is 4.5, which in my case is a late (crossbolted,
small-journal) block with 94mm bore and 80mm stroke.

If you want more detailed information, try emailing Roy
Burrell (mailto:royb@jeengineering.co.uk), who I'm sure will be
very helpful!

        Hope this helps!

        Best regards,

                Franc.
