Hey, Joe:

I understand your comments about the value of the dyno. I didn't
necessarily mean that the dyno was the best tool for setting up an engine if
you're already out at the Salt. I think my idea came more from an angle of
"Hey, it'd be kinda interesting to see just how many hp my bike is putting
to the ground out here". Unh, I think I also came up with the idea that the
sponsor of the dyno would give all racers say, for instance, two free runs
(so they could do some sorting out as well as get that first reading), and
further runs would cost some bucks. Maybe the dyno would be available for
public/spectator bikes ("Dyno Shootout"), too, and all those runs would
cost, and that's how the dyno operator gets some compensation for his
efforts.

Put the dyno tent WAY over there at the back of the pits, though -- I don't
want all the complaints the racers pitted near the dyno would (legitimately)
make about the noise.

Why not get "quantifiable data" at home then
go to Bonneville and see how fast you can go

hp at Bonneville may not be the same at home
where you are likely getting much of the motor
output sorted out

I know the week is too long for me to fool
around and make dyno pulls AFTER I show
up on the salt, the last thing I want to
do is make full power full nitrous dyno runs
to se how many times the internals like the
stress, unless it is to seee how fast it is going

this dyno business doesnt tell you didly about
what the motor is actually doing AT SPEED
on the course, and may shorten your week
"sorting things out"

dyno time may be great, but seat time
is pretty darn important too :):)
