Canoes and MGs Oh My!

1. MGBs will pull a lot of weight but can not handle tongue weight very
well without heavier springs. Ask Glen Towery (sp) how much the frame
and brakes can handle. The best tow hitches I have seen were commercial
ones made in the 60s and English made ones. They tie into the bumper
mounting horns and also just behind the diff. The tie bar was two piece
and went under the gas tank.
The British will pull seemingly ridiculous loads all day long on
continental vacations. My uncle pulled an 18' travel trailer (caravan)
behind a 1300cc Morris Marina.

2. In agreement on the hardtop. The forces on a canoe would tear the
top to pieces.

3. I've used ski racks on a BGT I owned, to great success with a
friend's windsurfer. Till one day she had to make an emergency stop
because a highway maint. truck pulled out in front of her. She was
afraid that the windsurfer would slip off the roof, so she didn't hit
the brakes hard. The surfer did stay on the roof even during the time
she shortened the car by 6 inches.

Kelvin.
