15 years ago I went through the contaminated (rust) gas tank problem. Tried
1. Chain in the tank
2. Pressure cleaner
3. Multiple draining out, flushing, drying, etc
4. Big diesel filters
5. Coating the tank
Finally gave up. Took out the old tank (again). Went to a welder who made
containers, counters, etc. for industrial kitchens and had him make one up
in stainless steel. No problems since. Cost less than a new tank from
Morgan. Neil 62 4/4

Brethren & Sistren, If you do seal the inside of your gas tank, please be
sure thereafter never to use any kind of additive-octane booster, lead
substitute, etc. -in the tank, as this will turn the lining to sludge.
Found this out the hard way in my '62 Falcon, relying upon the kindness of
strangers along the road from Miami, FL to Beaufort, North Carolina, where a
kind stranger drove me to Charlotte to get a new tank. (roundtrip of about
18 hours)
Years later, upon reluctantly & fearfully having the tank for my Isetta
lined (well, the alternative wasn't really financially feasible), I was told
by the radiator shop guy not to use additives. It all started to make sense
at that point... well, not everything, but the part about the tank lining
turning to sludge.
